A few weeks ago I shared my tips for making gold during Winters Veil. Now it’s time to use the current world event, Love is in the Air, to our advantage.
Collecting Tokens
For many of the items I suggest selling you’ll need to collect Love Tokens. These are awarded by the daily quests, the holiday dungeon and can also be obtained by trading in charm bracelets.
3 daily quests can be picked up in Capital cities. These are Crushing the Crown which requires you to kill mobs outside Shadowfang Keep, one out of three from the Public Relations Agent which will require you to give out chocolate or perfume samples to nearby players, and A Gift for <leader> which is dependent on which city you’re in. For maximum charms you’ll need to go to all 4 of your faction’s cities to present each of your leaders with a bracelet.
When completing the quest outside Shadowfang Keep make sure you pick up and complete the Follow the Recipe daily quest which is in that area.
Farming Charms
In order to collect charms for bracelets you’ll need to obtain a Charm Collecting Kit from Kwee Q Peddlefeet. This enables mobs that are at least green for you to drop charms.
You’ll get plenty of charms going about World Quests or other level appropriate content. If you want to farm them my favourite spot is the Everbloom dungeon in Draenor.
Set the difficulty to normal and kill everything. The mobs are green at max level and you can easily clear the dungeon in about 5 minutes obtaining 50-60 charms per run.
As well as trading in the bracelets made from the charms for love tokens and completing the faction leader dailies, you can also trade them to other players. Note that only the bracelets and not the charms are tradeable. Since they disappear after the world event you’ll be unable to sell them on the auction house so you’ll need to advertise in the trade channel (more effort, but at least there’s no auction house cut!). You’ll also need to gift wrap the bracelet in order to trade or mail it so stock up on that.
While buying gift wrap, pick up some extra to auction. Many people have no idea where to buy it or cant be bothered and I made a lot of gold during Winter Veil from this. Like Winter Veil, Love is in the Air often inspires players to give gifts to their friends so wrapping paper should be popular again!
Lovebird Mount
This is purchased from the Lovely Merchant for 270 love tokens.
These can sell very well out of season so don’t be tempted to put it on the auction house straight away. The price will jump up after the event when it’s not available any more. Keep it in your bank until fewer people are selling and demand goes up for more profit.
Pets
As always, pets are good sellers. There are three pets from this event. The Toxic Wasteling is a drop from the holiday dungeon.
It’s pretty common so don’t expect to make a huge profit from it. It doesn’t cost tokens though so selling it low is still a profit though.
Peddlefeet and the Lovebird Hatchling are bought from the Lovely Vendor for 40 tokens each.
Since the Lovebird Hatchling is a newer addition, it usually sells a little better as fewer players have it.
As usual, follow my tips to increase the value of pets before selling them, and like the mount, wait until after the event finishes to increase demand.
Selling Queues
The holiday dungeon is very popular as it can drop the Love Rocket mount. The queues can be long though if you’re a dps so you can make gold selling fast queues as a tank or healer. This year you only need to be level 16 to enter so it’s a great time to take advantage of all those half levelled alts that most of us have so there’ll be more demand for queues than usual. The fight is pretty simple (tank Hummel and Baxter, Frye will run around and can’t be tanked, don’t stand in the aoe on the ground/use the neutralizers to avoid damage) so even if you’re inexperienced you’ll be able to offer your queues
Advertise in trade and remember to take multiple people if you can for extra gold for the same time investment.
I Pity the Fool
This achievement requires players to go into a number of PVP zones. Many people don’t enjoy PVP or have never done it so as they find it intimidating and you can take advantage of this. Offer your services in trade as a bodyguard for this achievement. You will provide protection while they place their Love Fool and /pity. Make sure it’s clear that they need to stay with you for this, and consider offering transport to the right location if you have a two person mount to make this quicker and ensure they go to the right spot.
You’ll need to go to:
Wintergrasp (Northrend)
Gurubashi Arena (Stranglethorn, make sure they go to the arena floor or it wont count)
Arathi Basin (run straight to the blacksmith in the middle)
The remaining two locations, The Culling of Stratholme and Naxxramas aren’t PVP but you could offer transport there as part of the service if you have a 2 person mount.
For Arathi Basin, ike selling fast queues, you can take multiple people at once for this up to a group of 5. This can increase your profits and makes it safer as groups sticking together are less likely to be attacked so your protection role is easier. Some players may prefer one on one protection though so it’s a good idea to offer two different prices.
Flowers
This is a commonly overlooked money maker. Many players enjoy transmog and like fun seasonal items. They’re also lazy and don’t realise that a lot of these are cheap and easy to obtain. A great seller are off hand flowers. I sell these all year round but they definitely go better during Love is in the Air.
Buy your flowers from the flower vendor in Dalaran then sell for a good mark up on the auction house.
