The price of the Sky Golem mount on my servers has sky rocketed recently and I’ve made thousands of gold selling them. Despite this, I’ve had little to no competition so it looks like very few people have caught on or can be bothered making them, perhaps because of the time taken to craft each one. It’s time to cash in on this!
Why sell the Sky Golem?
The Sky Golem mount is pretty unique in WoW in that you can herb without dismounting. The only other mount that has this ability is the Mechanized Lumber Extractor, which is from the Remember to Share achievement, which requires collecting 300 toys, so the majority of players don’t have it. Herb prices have remained higher than I expected in 7.1 and potions, flasks and vantus runes are still selling well, so many players are still farming herbs. This mount makes farming more efficient. It also looks cool which can tempt non-herbalists into buying one too.
Where to get the pattern
The pattern is a Pandaria world drop for engineers called Schematic: Chief Engineer Jard’s Journal. You probably have it already if you’ve played your engineer during Mists of Pandaria or farmed anything in those zones. If not, a good place to farm it is outside the Imperial Granery in Valley of the Four Winds. The sprites spawn super fast and have low HP so you should have your pattern in minutes.
Mats and farming them
You’ll need 30 Jard’s Peculiar Energy Source and 30 Living Steel to make a Sky Golem. Jard’s Peculiar Energy Source is a once per day item made from 10 Ghost Iron Bars. Be sure to make this every day so you can make the maximum number of Sky Golems to sell. If you have multiple engineers you can make more per month, although Jard’s Peculiar Energy Source is BoP so you can’t pool materials between your alts.
Living Steel is made by alchemists from Trillium as a daily cooldown, although this can be bypassed by using Spirits of Harmony
The raw materials to make both of these can either be farmed in Pandaria or purchased from the Spirit of Harmony vendor outside the Shrine in the Vale of Eternal Blossoms.
If you’ve followed my Isle of Thunder, Timeless Isle or Skyshard gold making tips you should have plenty of Motes of Harmony to convert and spend. If not, my favourite mining spot is in the North-West of the Valley of the Four Winds
Selling Tips
Remember not to flood the market. You want to make sure you always have a mount for sale on the auction house, but don’t post multiples and make it look common. You can ask a better price for items perceived to be rare.
You should also advertise your mounts in the trade channel. Not everyone know the herbing ability of this so be sure to promote it! You can either do this to advertise the mount you’ve put on the auction house, or if you have the time sell the mount outside the auction house to avoid losing money to the AH cut.
