Easy gold tips for patch 7.1

Patch 7.1 is almost here and the professions changes will mean some changes to gold making.  It’s time to think about what to sell asap before it becomes less valuable, what to buy and what to make.

Alchemy

The Potion of Prolonged Power is going to be a top seller to raiders in 7.1.
Rank 1 of the recipe is a world drop in the Broken Isles, so make sure you play your alchemist right away to get this.  Rank 2 is from the Nightfallen vendor and requires revered rep and rank 3 is from Na’zak the Fiend, one of the World Bosses.  Hopefully you should have plenty of Blood of Sargeras to use to make these as there hasn’t been much use for it until now.  If not, watch for world quests and class hall missions.  As soon as you have the recipe, get making the potions and get them on the auction house ready for the first raid of 7.1.

Blood of Sargeras Trader

This NPC is located on the corner outside the Blacksmithing/Mining building in Dalaran.  She offers herbs and other trade goods in exchange for Blood of Sargeras.  Unless you need these for another reason, such as the potions mentioned above, it’s a good idea to turn them into herbs as soon as possible to sell either as herbs or convert to flasks before the prices drop.  I would expect the price to start dropping after a few days, so make the most of the high prices while they last to maximise your profits.  It’s a good idea to check what’s selling for the most gold on your server before choosing which herbs to buy.

Vantus Runes

These aren’t available yet as they drop from the bosses in Trial of Valor, but there’ll be demand for them when the raid is released on November 8th.  Make sure you find a group for your scribe on the first day so you can get the patterns, and stockpile Sallow and Roseate pigments ready.  Runes for the Emerald Nightmare bosses will still sell too as many guilds will want to finish clearing on mythic either before or after the new raid releases.  The best way to sell these is to advertise in trade and then make the wanted runes once you have a buyer.  If you’re listing on the auction house, keep an eye on guilds on your server to see which bosses they’re working on, and consider listing in both singles for individual raiders to buy and stacks of 20 as many guilds buy for their entire raid team and will appreciate the convenience.  Often you can charge a little more for the ease of only having to click once.

Bags

The 30 slot bag requires 10 Blood of Sargeras, 100 Silkweave and 20 Runic Catgut to make at rank 1.  Hexweave bags have the same number of slots are still cheaper to make so I suggest selling these as an alternative and not spending time on the new bags.  You can easily get the materials for them via your garrison so they’ll take up very little time to produce.  Keep an eye on the new bag prices and price your hexweave accordingly.
Consider the high materials requirement for the new bags, I wouldn’t be surprised if they get hotfixed to use fewer.  It’s a good idea to watch for any updates and switch to selling these if they become better value to make than hexweave.

Leatherworking

The new leatherworking recipe is for Drums of the Mountain and sold by the Leatherworking vendor in Dalaran.  Rank 2 and 3 are sold by the Highmountain quartermaster and require revered/exalted rep  These are made from Unbroken Claws, Unbroken Teeth and Stonehide Leather.  Claws and Teeth are extremely cheap at the moment, often selling for a few copper, so stock up before the price goes up.  Drums are going to be popular for the new Karazhan instance as many groups wont have a mage or shaman, so make some as soon as 7.1 hits to take advantage of first day sales.  Expect continuous demand for them for weekly Karazhan runs and Mythic + dungeons.

Raiding with Leashes

As I’ve posted about before, many players love vanity pets but can’t be bothered collecting them.  7.1 sees pets added to Ulduar, Trial of the Crusader and ICC.  All these instances are easily soloed at level 100 so you can run them on multiple toons even if you’ve not levelled your alts yet to get more drops.  Initially these pets tend to sell for thousands so get yours quickly and sell high.  Remember to use my tips for increasing battle pet value to get even more gold.
To summarize, here are what you want to buy and sell in 7.1

  • Unbroken Claw
  • Unbroken Tooth
